The Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum (FJDCM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Maynard L. Smith’s legacy and the history of Juneau-Douglas, Alaska. Founded in 1991, FJDCM works with the City and Borough of Juneau and other organizations to provide educational programs and activities, special events, and support for the Museum and its collections.
FJDCM actively partners with the Juneau-Douglas City Museum on a variety of projects, including the maintenance of the museum’s collections, the organization of special events and educational programs, and the promotion of the Museum’s public programs and services. The organization also works to raise funds for the Museum, through the sale of items at the Museum store, and through donations from the public and corporate sponsors.
FJDCM also sponsors a number of events throughout the year, such as the annual Maynard L. Smith Memorial Lecture Series, which brings prominent speakers to Juneau for a day of presentations and lectures about the history of the city. The organization also hosts a variety of special events, such as the annual “Family Night at the Museum” and the “Museum Madness” event.
In addition, FJDCM works to provide educational opportunities to local students, and to foster a deeper appreciation of Juneau-Douglas’ history and culture. Through their support and efforts, FJDCM helps to ensure that the Juneau-Douglas City Museum remains an important cultural and historical resource for the Juneau community.
