Defective, blurry, and dirty windows, distorting in wavering refractions a dark reflection of the street, the unfinished wood of the doors, the gray atmosphere of those barren interiors, depositing spiderwebs and clumps of dust on high shelves and shabby, crumbling walls, imprinted on the shops here the stamp of a wild Klondike.&quot;
