HENRY WHITFIELD STATE MUSEUM

The Henry Whitfield State Museum, located in Guilford, Connecticut, is the oldest house in the state. Built in 1639, the museum displays the history of Guilford and the surrounding area from the mid-17th century to the present. The museum was originally built as the home of Henry Whitfield, one of the first settlers of the area and one of the original signers of the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut.

The museum features five period rooms, a visitor center, Native American artifacts, colonial-era tools and furnishings, and a museum store. The main house contains a large collection of artifacts and documents from the colonial era, as well as artifacts from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Additionally, the site includes a recreated 17th century garden, a barn, and a replica of a Native American wigwam.

Visitors to the museum can take guided tours of the grounds and house, participate in living history programs, and attend special events. The museum also offers educational programs for school groups, and the grounds can be rented for private functions. The museum is open year-round, and admission is free.
