ISHAM-TERRY HOUSE

HARTFORD, CT

The Isham-Terry House, located in Hartford, Connecticut, is a historic house built around 1835. It is a two-story brick building, in the Federal-style. The building stands on a high basement and has a hipped roof with a central gable, with a single chimney at the center and two chimneys at either end. The house features a three-bay façade and a single-bay side elevation, with a single-story porch across the front. The porch is supported by round columns and has a balustrade along the top.

The interior of the house is laid out in a center hall plan and features a parlor, dining room, kitchen, and two bedrooms on the first floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor. The original woodwork and marble fireplaces remain intact, as does some of the original wallpaper. The windows are topped with arched pediments and feature shutters.

The Isham-Terry House is a significant example of Federal-style architecture and is historically associated with the Isham and Terry families, who were prominent members of Hartford society in the 19th century. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and is a contributing property to the historic district in the area.
