ASPEN HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Aspen Historical Society is a non-profit organization that was established in 1972 to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Aspen and the surrounding areas in Pitkin County, Colorado. The Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the history of Aspen and its environs through the acquisition and maintenance of historic sites, artifacts, documents, photographs and other materials. The Society also operates historic buildings, offers educational programming and community events, and produces publications related to local history and culture.

The Society’s headquarters is located on the Hyman Avenue Mall in downtown Aspen. The Society’s collections include thousands of photographs and artifacts, such as furniture, clothing, tools, and artifacts related to the mining and ranching eras of Aspen. The Society also houses the archives of the Aspen Times newspaper, the oldest newspaper in Colorado, which began publication in 1881.

The Aspen Historical Society offers a variety of educational programs, including lectures, tours, and exhibits. They also have a variety of events throughout the year, from the annual Aspen Antiques Fair to the annual Aspen Historical Society Ball. The Society also partners with local organizations to host special events such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Aspen Ideas Festival, and the Aspen Ideas Festival.
