The Northglenn Historic Preservation Foundation Inc. (NHPF) is a non-profit organization located in Northglenn, Colorado. It was formed in 2009 by a group of local citizens who wanted to preserve and promote Northglenn’s rich history. The foundation’s mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the history of Northglenn and its surrounding communities.

NHPF has worked hard to raise funds through grants, donations and fundraisers in order to restore and preserve the historically significant buildings within Northglenn. One of their primary goals is to work with the City of Northglenn to identify, preserve, and promote the Historic Sites in Northglenn.

In addition to preservation efforts, NHPF also works with local businesses, organizations, and individuals to promote Northglenn’s unique culture and history. They host various events throughout the year, such as their annual Heritage Festival, which celebrates the city’s diverse past.

NHPF is committed to educating the public about the importance of preserving the past. Through their work, they hope to inspire others to get involved in preserving Northglenn’s historic sites and promote the city’s rich heritage.

B43 Nuclear Bomb Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum For more than twenty years the B43 was the United States' air-dropped nuclear weapon used by a wide variety of aircraft. The weapon was developed in 1956 by Los Alamos National Laboratory, entering service in April 1961. Total production was 2,000 weapons, ending in 1965. The B43 was built in three variants: Mod 0, Mod 1, and Mod 2, each with five yield options. Explosive yields varied from 70 kilotons of TNT to 1 megaton of TNT. The B-43 could be delivered at altitudes as low as 300 ft, with fusing options for air burst, ground burst, free fall, contact, or laydown delivery - a mode of deploying a free-fall nuclear weapon in which the bomb's fall is slowed by parachute so that it actually lands on the ground before detonating. Aircraft that could carry the weapon included most USAF, USN and USMC fighters, bombers and attack aircraft, including the A-3 Skywarrior, A-4 Skyhawk, A-5 Vigilante, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair II, B-47 Stratojet, B-52 Stratofortress, F-100 Super Saber, F-105 Thunderchief, F-4 Phantom Il, F-111 Aardvark, FB-111A, F-15E Strike Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the F/A-18 Hornet. The aircraft, the pilot, and the bomb were never found. The B43 was phased out in the 1980s, and the last B43 weapons were retired in 1991 in favor of the newer B61 and B83 weapons. The upper weapon was used by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to practice their skills on, while the lower weapon was used by aircraft ground crews to practice loading the weapon on various aircraft. The "spike" on the end of the weapon buried itself in the ground and kept the unit from being dragged by its parachute when the target was small and needed precision accuracy. B28FI Nuclear Bomb Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum Mk28/B28FI Hydrogen Bomb The Mk28 hydrogen bomb, although first produced in 1958, remained an active item until 1991. It was designed to be carried by various fighter and bomber aircraft (F-100, F-104, F-105, B-47 B-52, and B-66). This weapon is capable of a ground or air burst and may be carried internally or externally, with a free-fall or parachute retarded drop, depending upon its configuration. The W28 small diameter, light weight thermonuclear warhead in M28 became the most versatile and widely used design ever adopted by the United States. This tactical and strategic thermonuclear bomb had the longest US service duration (33 years) and 2nd largest production run of any U.S. weapon design with over 4500 produced. The Mk-28 employed the "Building Block" principle, permitting various combinations of components to be combined: B28EX- Carried externally by F-100, F-105, and F-4; no parachute B28RE- Carried externally; equipped with one 4-ft. pilot chute and one 28 ft. ribbon chute. B28IN- Carried internally by B-52 and F-105; no parachute. B28RI- Carried internally; equipped with one 4-ft. pilot parachute, one 16.5-ft. ribbon extraction chute, one 64-ft. solid chute, and one 30-in. stabilization chute. B28FI- Carried internally; equipped with one 4-ft. pilot chute, one 16-ft. and one 24-ft. chute. On 17 January 1966, during a mid-air refueling operation, a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber collided with a KC-135 tanker over the coast of southern Spain near the village of Palomares. Both aircraft were destroyed and 7 of the 11 crew members onboard perished. The B-52 carried four B28 nuclear weapons. Parachutes deployed for two weapons. One bomb was recovered intact from a dry river bed east of Palomares and the other was recovered intact from the Mediterranean seabed 5 miles offshore 80 days later. Parachutes failed to deploy for two weapons which underwent high explosive detonation. One landed less than a mile west of the village and the other landed at the eastern edge. This resulted in various amounts of radioactive contamination over 558 acres.
