The Mesa County Historical Society in Grand Junction, CO was established in 1952 to collect, preserve, and share the history of Mesa County and the Western Slope of Colorado. The Society seeks to foster appreciation and understanding of the area’s history by making its collections available to the public. Its collections include photographs, documents, artifacts, and oral histories.
The Society operates an archive and research center, which is open to the public and available for research. The Society also offers a variety of lectures, workshops, and special events, including an annual history fair. In addition, the Society sponsors a variety of educational programs and field trips for schoolchildren and adults.
The Society also maintains several historic sites, including a replica of a sod house, a historic homestead, and a one-room schoolhouse. The historic sites are available for tours and special programs.
The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter and a variety of other publications, including books, pamphlets, and brochures. The Society is governed by a Board of Directors and staffed by a small group of volunteers.
