The Summit Historical Society, located in Breckenridge, Colorado, is dedicated to preserving the rich history of Summit County. Founded in 1969, the organization's mission is to promote, preserve, and interpret Summit County’s history and culture.

The Society operates two museums in Breckenridge, both of which are open to the public. The Barney Ford House Museum is a Victorian-era house that was once home to an African-American entrepreneur who was a major figure in the Breckenridge community. The Barney Ford House Museum houses historical artifacts and documents, as well as educational programs. The Edwin Carter Museum is located in a former schoolhouse and focuses on the life and work of Edwin Carter, a 19th century naturalist and taxidermist who lived and worked in Breckenridge.

The Society also runs a summer camp and other educational programming for children of all ages. Additionally, the organization hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as lectures, tours, and other activities.

The Summit Historical Society is funded in part by the Town of Breckenridge, the Colorado Historical Society, and other private organizations and donors. The Society is committed to preserving the rich history of Summit County in order to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of its unique cultural heritage.
