Dante's Peak Filming Locations - Hot Springs - Buckhorn Campground Angeles National Forest, California

Twonset Hot Spring was built on a campsite at the Buckhorn Campground, off the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway. The pool and rock features were entirely artificial.

-------------

The film Dante's Peak was filmed largely in or around the town of Wallace, Idaho in 1996, with additional locations in California. This collection recreates and expands my original 2007 edition, comparing scenes from the movie with their real life counterparts, taken in 2017. Still my favorite movie, enjoy!

EL MOLINO VIEJO, located in San Marino, California, is a historic landmark and an iconic symbol of the early days of the San Gabriel Valley. The structure, formerly known as the "Old Mill," was built in 1816 by a Basque-born rancher and entrepreneur, Don Jose Maria Verdugo. The mill was designed to serve as a grist mill, grinding grains into flour and meal for the local community. It was an important part of the local economy, providing a vital source of food for the growing population.

The mill is now owned and maintained by the San Marino Historical Society, who have preserved the building and its grounds for visitors to enjoy. The mill is constructed of adobe bricks, and the building is two stories tall with a wooden water wheel and a large stone grinding wheel. The mill has gone through several renovations, including the addition of a new roof and windows, as well as new shingles, siding and doors.

The mill's grounds, which also include a small pond and a garden, are open to the public. Visitors can explore the mill and learn about its history, as well as enjoy a leisurely stroll around the grounds. The mill is a popular spot for weddings, family gatherings, and other events.

The site is also home to the San Marino Historical Society, which was founded in 1927 and is dedicated to preserving the history of the San Gabriel Valley and the San Marino area. The society hosts events and activities, including educational lectures, historical tours and other community events.

EL MOLINO VIEJO is an important part of San Marino's past, and a reminder of the city's rich history and culture. The mill is a beloved landmark, and its grounds provide a tranquil and peaceful setting for visitors to enjoy.
