The Portuguese Historical Center in San Diego, California, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Portuguese culture and heritage in America. Established in 1975, the Center serves as the center of the Portuguese-American community in San Diego, offering educational and cultural programming, art exhibitions, and events.
Located in the heart of San Diego’s Little Portugal neighborhood, the Center boasts a beautiful banquet hall and meeting area, a library of Portuguese-related books and media, and an extensive archive of photographs and documents that tell the story of Portuguese-Americans in San Diego. Focusing on the history and culture of the Portuguese diaspora, the Center also offers a variety of classes, lectures, and seminars, as well as guided tours of the area.
The Portuguese Historical Center also houses a museum dedicated to the history of Portuguese-Americans in San Diego. The museum features artifacts, photographs, and documents that trace the Portuguese-American experience from the colonial period to the present. Additionally, visitors can browse the Center’s collection of Portuguese folk art, including pottery, weavings, and other traditional craftwork.
The Center is also home to an active Portuguese-American community, with regular social and cultural activities, such as book clubs, music festivals, and language classes.
