The Chinese Historical Society of America (CHSA) is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, California dedicated to preserving and documenting the history, culture, and accomplishments of Chinese Americans. Founded in 1963, CHSA is the first and only historical society in the United States devoted to the history of Chinese Americans. The Society is dedicated to researching, collecting, preserving, interpreting, and sharing the history of Chinese Americans.
CHSA offers a variety of programs and activities designed to educate the public on the history and contributions of the Chinese American community. The Society provides educational programs, lectures, tours, and publications, as well as a research library with over 3,000 books and manuscripts related to Chinese American history. Additionally, CHSA offers fellowships and scholarships to promote research and education on Chinese American history.
The Society also maintains an extensive museum collection, which includes artifacts and documents related to the history of Chinese Americans. The collection includes paintings, photographs, documents, and personal artifacts, as well as oral histories and historic photographs. The museum also offers various exhibitions, including those focused on Chinese American labor history, the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, and the Chinese American experience in the United States.
CHSA is committed to preserving the history of Chinese Americans and continues to promote the understanding and appreciation of the Chinese American experience through its educational programming, museum exhibits, and other activities.
