The University of California at Berkeley Foundation is a private, non-profit organization that works to support the University of California at Berkeley. Established in 1951, the Foundation is an independent, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt institution responsible for the management, investment and disbursement of private funds and other financial resources for UC Berkeley. It operates under the direction of a Board of Trustees made up of members of the UC Berkeley community, alumni, business leaders, and other individuals committed to the University’s goals.

The Foundation’s mission is to advance the University’s educational and research objectives. It works to provide additional resources to enhance the University’s academic programs, to foster innovative and interdisciplinary research, and to ensure that the campus continues to provide a stimulating educational experience. It also serves as a catalyst for private investments in the University, as well as supports fundraising activities to ensure that the University has the resources to remain competitive in the global educational environment.

The Foundation manages a variety of funds, including endowments, trusts, and other private funds. It is also responsible for the management of the University’s endowment, which has grown to more than $2.4 billion. Through its investments, the Foundation is able to generate income for the University, with the proceeds helping to support scholarships, research, campus programs, and other university initiatives.

In addition to its financial management responsibilities, the Foundation also provides guidance and support to the University’s academic and research missions. It works with faculty, staff, and students to identify and support activities that benefit the University and its mission. The Foundation also helps to establish and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, and other members of the University community.
