The Timber Heritage Association is a nonprofit organization in Eureka, California dedicated to preserving and interpreting the logging history of the region. Founded in 1981, the organization restores and operates logging locomotives, cars, and equipment from the past.
The mission of the Timber Heritage Association is to educate the public about logging and timber history, as well as to preserve and interpret the equipment and skills that were used during the logging era. The organization operates a museum in Eureka, as well as a range of historical logging exhibits, including the Arcata & Mad River Railroad, the Samoa Cookhouse, and the Scotia Museum. Additionally, the association hosts educational programs, field trips, and special events throughout the year.
The Timber Heritage Association also operates a number of locomotives and cars from the logging era, which can be seen at the museum and on special excursion runs. The locomotives are restored to their original condition and are operated by knowledgeable volunteers. The association also offers classes in how to operate the equipment and how to maintain it. In addition, they offer lectures, tours, and demonstrations on the history of logging and railway operations in the region.
