The Central Wyoming Astronomical Society (CWAS) is an organization dedicated to the advancement of amateur astronomy in Casper, Wyoming. Founded in 2004, CWAS provides amateur astronomers with the education and resources needed to explore the night sky.

CWAS hosts public sky viewing events throughout the year at the Casper Planetarium. During these events, members of the public can view the night sky through telescopes and binoculars, as well as learn about constellations, planets, and other celestial objects. CWAS also hosts special events and workshops to teach astronomy fundamentals.

CWAS also serves as a resource center for amateur astronomers. The society provides educational materials, such as books and DVDs, as well as advice on equipment selection and maintenance. The society also offers members the opportunity to borrow equipment, such as telescopes, for a nominal fee.

In addition to its educational and community outreach activities, CWAS also sponsors a monthly lecture series covering a variety of topics related to astronomy and astrophysics. The society also participates in a number of outreach activities, such as the Wyoming Star Party, an annual event that brings together amateur astronomers from all over the state for a weekend of stargazing, talks, and workshops.

CWAS is open to members of all ages and backgrounds, and strives to be a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. The society’s mission is to promote the appreciation and understanding of astronomy in the Casper area, and to foster a sense of wonder and exploration among its members.
