The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia (PAWV) is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to help create, improve, and preserve the quality of life in West Virginia through the preservation and protection of West Virginia’s historic, cultural, and natural resources. The organization works with local and state agencies, businesses, and other non-profits to help preserve West Virginia’s unique heritage.

The Charleston, West Virginia chapter of the Preservation Alliance was founded in 1994 and is one of the oldest and most active chapters of the organization. The Charleston chapter focuses on preserving historic and cultural resources in the city and its surrounding areas. The chapter organizes and supports local preservation efforts and works with local and state government agencies to identify and protect historic and cultural resources.

The chapter also works to promote public awareness and appreciation of the value of historic preservation and to advocate for public policies that support the protection of West Virginia’s historic resources. The chapter is involved in a variety of educational and outreach activities, such as lectures, walking tours, and symposia, to help spread the word about historic preservation. The chapter also provides technical assistance to individuals and organizations conducting preservation projects.

PAWV-Charleston works to protect the region’s architectural, archaeological, and cultural resources, as well as its natural resources. The chapter also works to promote economic development through the adaptive reuse of historic buildings and sites. In addition, the chapter works to ensure that the unique character of the region is retained for future generations.
