Lamping Homestead Recreation Area The Lamping Homestead Recreation Area offers camping, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, and a scenic hiking trail. The site has six walk-in campsites, eight picnic sites, and a picnic shelter. There are two loop trails for hiking, one at 3½ miles and the other at 1½ miles. A 2-acre pond at the site is stocked with bluegill, bass, and catfish. This secluded recreation area was once the farmstead of the Lamping family. The family homesteaded this area in the 1800s. The Tyler County Museum is a historical museum located in Middlebourne, West Virginia. The museum is housed in a two-story brick building that was built in 1860 and once served as the Tyler County Courthouse. The museum showcases the history of Tyler County and the surrounding area through various exhibits and artifacts.

One of the most notable exhibits at the Tyler County Museum is the Oil and Gas Room, which highlights the importance of the oil and gas industry in the development of the region. The room features a variety of equipment, tools, and photographs related to the industry.

Other exhibits at the museum focus on local history, including the early settlers of the area, the Civil War, and the development of transportation and communication in the region. The museum also has a collection of Native American artifacts and a display of antique radios.

Backwater Along the Ohio River at Leith Run Leith Run, a small creek, feeds into the large Ohio River at the Leith Run Recreation Area and Campground. Where the two streams meet, a small backwater forms. This backwater provides dense, still-water cover to many fish and other aquatic species. Frontier Boat Launch The Frontier Boat Launch is located in the national forest’s Marietta Unit, right off Ohio State Route 7. It includes a wide boat launch that can handle two vehicles at the same time, as well as 70 parking spaces for trucks and trailers plus additional parking for cars.
