WASHINGTON STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) is a non-profit organization located in Tacoma, Washington. Established in 1899, it is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the state. The mission of the Society is to promote the study and appreciation of Washington State history through research, collections, and public programs.

The Society’s headquarters in Tacoma is home to a comprehensive library and research center, permanent and changing exhibit galleries, and a museum store. The library and archives contain more than 500,000 books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, artifacts, and other materials concerning the history of the state, its people, and the Pacific Northwest.
