SOUTH SOUND MARITIME HERITAGE ASSOC IATION

South Sound Maritime Heritage Association (SSMHA) is a non-profit organization based in Olympia, Washington which was established in 1989. SSMHA is dedicated to preserving and promoting the maritime heritage of the South Sound region of Washington State. The organization works to educate the public on the area's maritime history and to promote the preservation of historical vessels, artifacts, documents, and other materials associated with maritime activities in the region.

The organization hosts a variety of programs and events, including seminars, lectures, and field trips, that focus on the maritime history of the South Sound area. SSMHA also sponsors an annual Maritime Heritage Festival and a "Tugboat Races" event. Through these events, the organization works to promote local maritime heritage, raise awareness of the importance of preserving maritime history, and foster an appreciation of the many aspects of maritime life.

The organization also works to preserve and protect the area's historical vessels and artifacts through the restoration, maintenance, and display of vessels and artifacts at various locations around the South Sound area. SSMHA also serves as a resource for maritime historians and researchers, providing access to a wide range of primary source materials related to the maritime heritage of the South Sound region.
