On my way to LIGO gravity wave visitor's center. A new branch of astronomy that is used to detect gravity waves. Not light or radio waves, it's waves in the very fabric of space/time itself.

This is the actual detector in the distance. I only want to go to the visitor's center as I might be afraid to even sneeze near the actual instrument. It's a sensitive measurement and it's not open to the public for good reason.

The visitor's center. When cataclysmic events happen far away in the galaxy, like black holes or dense neutron stars colliding, it shakes the very fabric of space and time itself.

Imaging clocks speeding up and slowing down in a rhythmic fashion as time itself is being rocked. Space is changing size also, but both are changing ever so slightly when the waves get to earth.

Less the 1,000th of the width of a proton. To measure this, we need the most accurate measurements made in the history of civilization so far.

Einstein predicted the existence of gravity waves, but thought we would never be able to detect them. Technology was more crude in his day.

Now there are places that are beginning to detect this. Leaning about things in the universe that we could not see in light or radio waves.

Actually light and radio are all just part of electromagnetic waves; the waves we normally use for astronomy.

Gravity waves are a new window to the universe.
