Friends of the Northern Pacific Depot Ellensburg (FONPDE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the historic Northern Pacific Depot in Ellensburg, Washington. The organization was founded in 1993 by a group of citizens interested in restoring the historic building, which was originally built in 1889 as a passenger train station. The depot is a rare example of an early 20th century railroad station, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

FONPDE’s mission is to preserve the depot, promote its history and interpret its role in the development of Ellensburg, Kittitas County and the Pacific Northwest. Over the years, the organization has been successful in restoring the depot and its various components, including the exterior, interior, and its original stained glass windows. The organization also works to promote the depot’s history through educational programs and activities, such as hosting events, offering guided tours, and presenting “History at the Depot” lectures.

The organization also works to raise funds to support the preservation and restoration of the depot. Fundraising activities include membership drives, donations, and special events, such as the annual Northern Pacific Depot Ice Cream Social. Funds raised are used to support the organization’s mission, and to help maintain the depot for future generations.
