RIPPON LODGE HISTORIC SITE

Rippon Lodge Historic Site is a historic landmark located in Dumfries, Virginia, United States. The site is situated on a 43-acre property along the Potomac River and was built around 1747 by Richard Blackburn, a prominent plantation owner in the area. The main house is a two-story brick building with a central hall and four rooms on each floor. The architecture of the building is a mix of Georgian and Federal styles, with some additions made in the 19th century.

Rippon Lodge was occupied by several prominent historical figures, including George Washington, who stayed at the property during his travels between Mount Vernon and Williamsburg. The site was also used as a hospital during the Civil War and later as a summer residence for the family of former Virginia Governor Albertis Harrison.

Today, Rippon Lodge is open to the public and offers guided tours of the historic house and grounds. Visitors can learn about the history of the site and the people who lived there, as well as enjoy the beautiful gardens and scenic views of the Potomac River. The site also hosts special events throughout the year, such as holiday celebrations, historical reenactments, and educational programs for adults and children.
