The SCRABBLE SCHOOL PRESERVATION FOUNDATION is a non-profit organization located in Castleton, Virginia. The foundation is dedicated to preserving the historic Scrabble School, which was the first African American school in Rappahannock County.
The Scrabble School was built in 1921 and served as a primary school for African American students until 1968 when it was closed due to integration. The building fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned.
In 2009, a group of concerned citizens formed the SCRABBLE SCHOOL PRESERVATION FOUNDATION with the goal of restoring the building and preserving its history. The foundation has since raised funds to restore the school and turn it into a community center.
Today, the Scrabble School serves as a museum and community center, hosting events and educational programs for the community. The foundation also works to preserve the history of the school and the African American community in Rappahannock County through research and outreach.
