The 24th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was a Confederate unit that served during the American Civil War. It was raised in Roanoke, Virginia, in May 1861 and consisted of men from the surrounding counties. The regiment was organized into ten companies, each with around 100 men. The commanding officer was Colonel Jubal A. Early, who would later become one of the most famous Confederate generals.

The 24th Virginia saw action in several major battles, including First Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness. They also participated in numerous smaller engagements and skirmishes throughout Virginia and Maryland. The regiment suffered heavy casualties in these battles, with over 600 men killed or wounded.

Despite the losses, the 24th Virginia remained a formidable fighting force throughout the war. They were known for their discipline, courage, and determination on the battlefield. In addition to their combat duties, the regiment also performed a variety of other tasks, such as guarding prisoners, building fortifications, and conducting reconnaissance.

After four years of service, the 24th Virginia surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. Only a few hundred men remained of the original regiment. Today, the memory of the 24th Virginia is preserved through historical reenactments and other commemorative events.
