White-tailed deer fawn in Virginia While I was doing a breeding bird survey at a large meadow area in Shenandoah National Park, I saw a doe with a fawn approaching after crossing the road near the visitor center. The doe stopped fairly near, but the fawn soon approached much closer. I stood still except for grabbing a few images and eventually the fawn returned to its mother.

Big Meadows is one of the best public spots in the region to observe deer in a natural setting.
