Avenel Plantation is a historic farm estate located in Bedford, Virginia. The estate was once owned by the Eppes family, one of the most well-known families in Virginia's history.

The land on which the plantation sits was first purchased by John Eppes in 1798 and was known as Eppes Farm. The Eppes family built the main house and outbuildings in the 1820s. The main house was a three-story Federal-style brick structure with a hipped roof and a two-story portico. The estate included a smokehouse, barn, and other outbuildings, as well as the original slave quarters.

After the Civil War, the plantation was sold and the main house was remodeled in the Second Empire style in the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, it was modified again, to its present form.

The property is now a museum and is open to the public. Visitors can explore the house and see the outbuildings, slave quarters, and grounds. The museum also offers educational programs and events.

Avenel Plantation is a reminder of the past and has been designated a National Historic Landmark. It is one of the most important and well-preserved examples of Virginia's plantation history.
