The Athenaeum is a historic building located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Built in 1851, the Greek Revival-style structure was originally used as a bank before being converted into a cultural and community center in 1961. The Athenaeum is now owned and operated by the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association, which uses the space to showcase contemporary art exhibitions and host various cultural events.

The building itself is a two-story brick structure with a columned entrance portico and a spacious interior with high ceilings and large windows that offer natural light. The main gallery space on the first floor is used for rotating exhibitions, while the second floor features smaller galleries, offices, and classrooms for art education programs.

The Athenaeum has a rich history and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971.
