Henrico County Historical Society (HCHS) is a nonprofit organization located in Henrico, Virginia. Founded in 1924, the society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Henrico County and the surrounding area. HCHS collects, preserves and interprets artifacts, documents and photographs related to the history of the county. The organization operates the historic 18th century Wilton House Museum, which is open for tours and special events, and the Varina Library, which houses a large collection of books and materials about Henrico County’s past.
HCHS also offers a variety of educational programs and activities, including lectures, walking tours, writing classes, and workshops. The society also sponsors an annual historic home tour which showcases some of the county's most famous residences. Additionally, HCHS publishes a quarterly newsletter and offers volunteer opportunities.
The society also works to preserve and protect the county's architectural and cultural heritage through advocacy and public outreach. HCHS members are active in local and state preservation organizations, and the organization often presents educational programs in public schools.
HCHS is a member of the Virginia Association of Museums, the American Association for State and Local History, and the Virginia Historical Society. It is also affiliated with the Virginia State Historical Records Advisory Board and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
