LOUDOUN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Loudoun County Historical Society (LCHS) is a non-profit organization located in Leesburg, Virginia. Founded in 1953, the LCHS is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Loudoun County and its residents. The society’s mission is to interpret and promote the county’s history and culture through education, collections, research, and preservation.

The society operates two museums: the Loudoun Museum in downtown Leesburg, and the Claude Moore Colonial Farm in McLean, Virginia. The Loudoun Museum offers interactive exhibits, educational programs, and special events, while the Claude Moore Colonial Farm is a living history museum that portrays the life of a family of small farmers in colonial America.

The society also preserves an extensive collection of artifacts related to the history of Loudoun County, including more than 8,000 photographs, business records, and other documents from the area’s past. It also provides research services, as well as historical lectures and workshops.

The society is also involved in a variety of public outreach programs, such as its annual Heritage Festival, which celebrates the county’s rich cultural heritage. Through its work, the LCHS strives to ensure that the county’s history and culture are celebrated and remembered for generations to come.
