Woodlawn Plantation is a historic estate located in Alexandria, Virginia, approximately 10 miles south of Washington, D.C. The property was originally part of a land grant from Lord Fairfax to George Washington's father in the 18th century. In 1799, Washington's nephew, Lawrence Lewis, and his wife Nelly, the former first lady Martha Washington's granddaughter, built the main house on the property.

The house is a two-story, five-bay Federal-style structure with a central pedimented projection and a small cupola. The interior features original woodwork, decorative plasterwork, and period furniture. Woodlawn was designed to be a working plantation, and the estate includes several outbuildings, including a slave quarters, a smokehouse, and a dairy.

Today, Woodlawn is owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Visitors can tour the main house, the outbuildings, and the surrounding gardens, which include a formal parterre garden, an orchard, and a meadow. The estate also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including craft fairs, garden tours, and historical reenactments. Woodlawn Plantation is a unique and important piece of American history, and a must-see destination for anyone interested in the country's rich cultural heritage.
