Carolina Wren in Virginia [Explored] I seldom visit the lake near my home that I don't hear the calls of one or more Carolina Wrens, <i>Thryothorus ludovicianus, </i>and this trip was no exception. They are also constantly coming through our yard and closely examining all the places where insects and other food can be found. Marsh Wren in western Virginia (First of two) I found this Marsh Wren, <i>Cistothorus palustris,</i> after hearing it call. They are rare in the Shenandoah Valley, and in the years when they are reported, they are usually seen during fall migration. In an interesting coincidence, the last report of one from Lake Shenandoah was 10 years to the day earlier than the one from this year. They are adept at staying hidden in the reeds.
