United Methodist Church I stopped to get gas and this wonderful example of a town church was across the street. I used some new photoshop magic and removed the cars.
Community altar Montpelier, the capital of Vermont, suffered catastrophic flooding in July, 2023, as the rain-swollen Winooski River rose to 20.58 feet, three feet above flood stage. Downtown businesses were inundated, and many remain closed now three months later. This shrine, placed on the Langdon Street bridge over the river, has this text on the left-hand end: "this is a ***community ALTAR*** ~ please give it respect and let it represent our Love for our communities ~ our experiences in the flood ~ the fear and trauma, the care and concern, the acts of bravery, kindness and resilience ~ as well as what we fear, can't see our ways through yet and don't know how we'll fix. Stop & feel, leave an offering, take a moment ~ it's been so much ~ onward ~ day by day ~ in courage and please, LOVE, TOGETHER ❤️ flags by local artist Dierdra Michelle" The "flags" refer to the colored squares strung across the river, in the upper edge of the photo. They are possibly related to Tibetan prayer flags.

sanctuary1 This is the sanctuary (main part of the church). Like the parish hall, it only has 1-2" of water, but the flooring has to be taken up, leaving the wide pine underfloor. you see here The pews therefore had to be moved, which is why they're piled up in the middle. The black shape in back is sheeting used to cover the organ, so as to protect it from the hot air blown in to dry everything out.
