Flood Waters I took this during a devastating flood in my town when over 8 inches of rain fell in a short period of time. I never really shared any of the photos, just a few. This is a well known field where many events happen and it was completely flooded. Community altar Montpelier, the capital of Vermont, suffered catastrophic flooding in July, 2023, as the rain-swollen Winooski River rose to 20.58 feet, three feet above flood stage. Downtown businesses were inundated, and many remain closed now three months later. This shrine, placed on the Langdon Street bridge over the river, has this text on the left-hand end: "this is a ***community ALTAR*** ~ please give it respect and let it represent our Love for our communities ~ our experiences in the flood ~ the fear and trauma, the care and concern, the acts of bravery, kindness and resilience ~ as well as what we fear, can't see our ways through yet and don't know how we'll fix. Stop & feel, leave an offering, take a moment ~ it's been so much ~ onward ~ day by day ~ in courage and please, LOVE, TOGETHER ❤️ flags by local artist Dierdra Michelle" The "flags" refer to the colored squares strung across the river, in the upper edge of the photo. They are possibly related to Tibetan prayer flags.

sacristy The sacristy. There used to be a lot more in here than there is now! Its floor also needs to be replaced.
undercroft The undercroft (area below the main part of the church). It was flooded completely to the ceiling, but, unlike the parish hall basement, there was nothing down here but heat & electric, which the City wants moved up. If anything, it looks better than it did before.
parish_hall The parish hall, which, like the sanctuary, had 1-2" or water. It looks pretty much the same, except for the missing tables & chairs.
sanctuary1 This is the sanctuary (main part of the church). Like the parish hall, it only has 1-2" of water, but the flooring has to be taken up, leaving the wide pine underfloor. you see here The pews therefore had to be moved, which is why they're piled up in the middle. The black shape in back is sheeting used to cover the organ, so as to protect it from the hot air blown in to dry everything out.
