Texas: San Jacinto Museum -First Capitol in Austin Eight dioramas were made by Edward Wilkinson and staff in 1935 as a Civil Works Administration project in preparation for the Texas Centennial a year later. This diorama depicts the first Capitol building in Austin, which stood from 1838 to 1853.

The San Jacinto Museum of History, focusing on the history of the Battle of San Jacinto and Texas culture and heritage, is located inside the base of the San Jacinto monument. Part of the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site located on the Houston Ship Channel, the monument commemorates the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. The 567.31-foot high monument, the world's tallest masonry column is topped with a 34-foot, 220-ton Lone Star. Construction on the monument began in 1936, and it was dedicated in 1939.
