Fort Belknap is a historic military fort located in Newcastle, Texas. The fort was established in 1851 by the U.S. Army to protect settlers and travelers on the Texas frontier. It was named after William G. Belknap, who was then the Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant.

The fort played a significant role in the Indian Wars of the late 1800s, serving as a base for military campaigns against the Comanche, Kiowa, and other Native American tribes in the region. It also served as a stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route, which carried mail and passengers between St. Louis, Missouri, and San Francisco, California.

Today, Fort Belknap is a historic site and museum that preserves the history of the fort and the surrounding area. Visitors can explore the restored barracks, officers' quarters, and other buildings, as well as view exhibits on the fort's history and the Native American tribes that once lived in the area.

The site also hosts events throughout the year, including living history demonstrations, frontier-themed festivals, and educational programs for school groups. Fort Belknap is a unique and important part of Texas history that offers visitors a glimpse into the state's past.
