The Oakleigh Museum in Mobile, Alabama is an historic house museum located in the heart of Mobile’s historic Oakleigh Garden District. The museum is a two-story Greek Revival residence that was built in 1833 by Joseph and Mary Moore. The house is one of the best examples of antebellum architecture in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum, operated by the Historic Mobile Preservation Society, offers tours of the house, which is filled with antiques, artifacts and furnishings that date back to the early 19th century. Tour highlights include the dining room, which still has the original wallpapers and the parlor, which has one of the finest collections of period furniture in the city. The museum also offers educational programs to school groups and features changing exhibits on Mobile’s history.

Oakleigh Museum also includes a restored carriage house, which houses a permanent exhibit on Mobile’s maritime history, and a period kitchen and herb garden in the backyard. The museum’s grounds are home to a variety of plants and trees, including a large magnolia tree that was planted in 1833 and is believed to be the oldest in Mobile.

Oakleigh Museum is open to the public for tours daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Admission is free for members of the Historic Mobile Preservation Society, and there is a nominal fee for non-members. The museum also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as lectures, musical performances and holiday parties.
