Ibex Ghost Town (Shackelford County, Texas) Historical marker for the ghost town of Ibex in Shackelford County, Texas. The plaque states: Ibex - Oil drilling in the 1920s transformed this area from cattle ranches to a boomtown. In 1919, the Ibex Oil Co. drilled a successful well into the Caddo Lime formation. Soon other drilling companies came and wooden derricks spread for miles. In 1921, Ibex sold their leases to the Landreth Co. Ed Landreth built a gasoline refinery, water-powered by a dam on Hubbard Creek. Lone Star Gas, Humble Oil and other companies built facilities and dozens of employee homes. Other families slept in tents or open pastures. In the 1920s, the Ibex community had a school, grocery, dry goods, hotels, cafes, and a central phone office. The post office operated from 1923-53 before the population fell. Today, foundations and smokestacks remain from the industrial past of Ibex. (2013)

FM 601 Hubbard Creek Bridge (Shackelford County, Texas) Historic through truss bridge over Hubbard Creek near the old ghost town of Ibex in Shackelford County, Texas. The Pratt through truss bridge was constructed 1928-29 by Crouch and Noland of Strawn, Texas for Shackelford County. The Texas Highway Department acquired the road in 1948 and designated it FM 601. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1906 (NRHP No. 96001105).

The plaque states: On site acquired Aug. 18, 1877, for Fort Griffin Lodge No. 489., A.F.&A.M., chartered on Dec. 14, 1878. Stone was quarried nearby on Collins Creek. Volunteers built hall. School, civic affairs, church services of many denominations were held downstairs, the lodge upstairs. In 1881, community was dealt two blows: the U.S. Army vacated Fort Griffin and the Texas Central Railroad line bypassed the town. In 1886, the lodge moved to Throckmorton. School, held here until 1937, was consolidated with Albany in 1942. Structure is still used by clubs and for church services. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1973

The plaque states: Fort Griffin Civil Jail - This structure was the jail used in the town of Fort near the United States Army Post of Fort Griffin which defended the frontier from 1867 to 1881. During this period lawlessness was common in the town. Citizens built this thick-walled jail in 1878, although a conspicuous stone bears an earlier date. Gamblers, trail drivers, buffalo hunters, and skinners were frequently held here, as many as 18 at one time. Used as a cowshed after the 1880s. (1974)
