The Houston Gem and Mineral Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and appreciation of earth sciences and related disciplines. Founded in 1958, the society has a membership of over 400 individuals who share a passion for rocks, minerals, fossils, and gems.

Happiness Eastern Bluebird, <i>Sialia sialis</i>, high enough that some of my companions on the monthly bird hike were uncertain of the ID until I zoomed in about this tight while chimping. “Ron’s got a bluebird,” they said, making me happy. 😃
Shout Have made many attempts to photograph my beloved Red-wing Blackbirds, <i>Agelaius phoeniceus</i>, right here. Hard to get enough dynamic range for detail in the plumage and face without blowing out the sky. This one is not too bad. Happy Wing Wednesday!
