Friends of Fort McKavett State Historical Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting and promoting the history and heritage of Fort McKavett, Texas. Located in Menard County, the park includes the historic fort and its grounds, as well as adjacent lands that have been deeded to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for preservation. Old Frisco Railroad Depot (Menard, Texas) Historical marker for the old Frisco Depot in Menard, Texas. The plaque reads: "Seeking a rail line to speed marketing of their livestock, residents of this area in 1909 asked the Ft. Worth & Rio Grande Railroad, a branch of the Frisco System, to extend track from Brady (40 miles northeast) to Menardville. Ranchers donated right of way, while townspeople erected this depot and shortened the town's name to "Menard". Celebrations marked the arrival of the first train, Feb. 10, 1911, and completion of this mission revival station, July 4, 1911. The Santa Fe system later acquired the line. After rail service ended in 1972, this building became a historical museum. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark—1978"

The old station was built in 1911 by the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway (FW&RG) which was a subsidiary of the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway (SLSF), known as the "Frisco". The Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway was sold to the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) in 1937. The line was closed in 1972. The depot was designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1978.
