The DeSoto Texas Historical Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of DeSoto’s unique history, culture and heritage. Founded in 1984, the Foundation works with the City of DeSoto to promote the education of the community in the rich history of the area. The Foundation has been involved in several projects, such as the restoration of the historic DeSoto Hotel, the development of the DeSoto Historical Museum, and the preservation of historic homes and buildings in the city.
The DeSoto Historical Museum is the center of the Foundation’s activities. Located in the historic DeSoto Hotel, the Museum offers a wide range of exhibits, featuring artifacts from the city’s past, including a replica of the original DeSoto Hotel, a replica of the DeSoto County Courthouse, and a collection of artifacts from the area’s Native American tribes. The Museum also houses a library with a large collection of books, maps, and photographs related to the history of DeSoto.
In addition to the Museum, the Foundation also organizes several events throughout the year, such as the DeSoto Days Festival, which celebrates the city’s history and culture. The Foundation also serves as an advocate for the preservation of DeSoto’s historic buildings and homes, and works with the City of DeSoto to develop programs that benefit the local community. Through its efforts, the Foundation helps to ensure that the history and culture of DeSoto are remembered and celebrated for future generations.
