The Jewish Historical Society of San Diego (JHSSD) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1980 to document, preserve, and share the unique history of San Diego’s Jewish community. The Society works to collect, preserve, and interpret the Jewish experience in San Diego through its archives, museum, and educational programs. The JHSSD archives contain a variety of materials, including photographs, artifacts, documents, and oral histories that all detail the Jewish experience in San Diego. The Society’s museum, located in Balboa Park, includes both permanent and rotating exhibits that explore various aspects of San Diego’s Jewish past. The museum also offers educational programs for school-aged children and adults of all ages, featuring lectures, workshops, and other events. The JHSSD also serves as a resource center for the San Diego Jewish community, providing access to resources and programs related to Jewish history, culture, and identity. Through its work, the JHSSD seeks to promote understanding, appreciation, and respect for the diversity of the Jewish experience in San Diego and beyond.
