The Center for Visual Music (CVM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, study and exhibition of visual music, abstract film and related media. Based in Los Angeles, California, the Center is a research, archival, and curatorial organization with a mission to promote the understanding, appreciation and cultural legacy of visual music.

CVM was founded in 2002 by the film scholar and collector, Dr. William Moritz, to promote the awareness and understanding of visual music and its history. CVM’s collection includes more than 1,000 films, videos, and related ephemera from the late 19th century to the present. Many of these works, which come from private collections, have not been seen by the public since their original release.

The Center’s activities include exhibitions, screenings, lectures, publications and events. CVM is committed to the preservation and restoration of films and videos, as well as the promotion of new works. The Center also seeks to encourage scholarly research and artistic collaborations, and to foster greater public understanding of the field of visual music.

CVM works closely with archivists, scholars, artists and institutions around the world to ensure that the works of visual music are available to the public, and to ensure that the legacy of visual music is preserved and documented.
