The Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) is a research and educational organization located in College Station, Texas. Founded in 1973, the INA is dedicated to the study and preservation of the world’s submerged cultural heritage. The organization is committed to the scientific investigation, documentation, and conservation of ancient shipwrecks and maritime sites, as well as educating the public about the importance of this heritage.

INA’s headquarters are located at the George Bush Library and Museum at Texas A&M University, where it operates a research facility and museum, and maintains an extensive library of maritime archaeology books and journals. The INA also operates a field school in Bodrum, Turkey, which offers field courses in maritime archaeology and conservation to students from all over the world.

The INA’s research has spanned the globe and has included expeditions to the Mediterranean, North Atlantic, Caribbean, and Red Sea. Its most notable discoveries include the 16th century Ottoman shipwreck at Uluburun, the German U-boat U-534 in the North Sea, the 16th century Spanish shipwreck at La Isabela, and the 18th century British warship HMS Colossus.

The INA is also involved in various other projects, such as the Maritime Heritage Program, which seeks to preserve the maritime cultural heritage of the United States, and the Archaic Greek Shipwreck Project, which is researching the remains of a 5th century B.C. merchant ship. The INA also provides educational opportunities to the public, including lectures and workshops. Through its research and education, the INA seeks to promote the understanding and preservation of the world’s submerged cultural heritage.
