It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is a three-story Classical Revival-style building, with its appearance mainly deriving from c.1900 renovation/expansion. It was damaged by a fire in 1933 but was quickly repaired. When listed on the National Register it was the longest continually-used courthouse in Texas.

The Museum of Measurement and Time (MMT) in Jefferson, TX is a unique museum that honors the history of measuring devices and timekeeping. The MMT consists of two floors with over 3,000 objects related to the theme of measurement and time.

The first floor of the museum is dedicated to the history of timekeeping and includes a variety of exhibits. Visitors can find a display of historical timepieces, including pocket watches, wristwatches, and even clocks dating back to the 1600s. There is also a section devoted to the development of the atomic clock, as well as a display of mechanical music boxes.

The second floor of the museum is dedicated to the history of making measurements. Here, visitors can find a display of early scientific instruments, such as microscopes, barometers, and thermometers. There is also a section devoted to the development of the metric system, as well as a display of more modern instruments, such as GPS receivers, laser rangefinders, and accelerometers.
