The Tehachapi Mountain Observatory Association (TMOA) is a non-profit organization located in Tehachapi, California. Founded in 1957, the mission of the TMOA is to promote the advancement of science and education through the use of astronomical observatories and public outreach activities.
The TMOA operates two ground-based observatories in the Tehachapi Mountains. The first is the Tehachapi Observatory, located at an elevation of nearly 4,000 feet and equipped with a 12-inch Meade LX200 telescope. This observatory is used for public viewing and educational programs, as well as research projects. The second is the Southern California Research Center (SCRC), located at an elevation of 5,500 feet and equipped with a 24-inch Meade LX200 telescope. This observatory is used for research projects and is available to researchers from around the world.
In addition to its observatories, the TMOA offers a variety of public programs and activities throughout the year, such as astronomy lectures, educational workshops, and star-gazing parties. The TMOA also provides outreach and educational programs to local schools and community organizations.
The TMOA is supported by its members, donations, and grants. The organization is run by a volunteer board of directors and is committed to providing the public with access to the wonders of the night sky.
