OLD NACOGDOCHES UNIVERSITY BUILDING

The Old Nacogdoches University Building is a historic structure located in Nacogdoches, Texas. Built in 1858, it was the first institution of higher education in the state of Texas. The building served as the home of Nacogdoches University until it closed in 1895. Later, it was used as a public school and a community center.

The building is a two-story, brick structure with a gabled roof and a symmetrical facade. It has a central entrance flanked by two large windows with arched tops. The windows are framed by brick pilasters and topped with stone lintels. The building also features a prominent cupola with a spire at the top.

Inside, the building has a large central hallway with classrooms on either side. The classrooms have high ceilings, large windows, and original wood floors. The building also has a basement, which was originally used as a dormitory for students.

Today, the Old Nacogdoches University Building is a museum and cultural center. It has been beautifully restored and is open to the public for tours and events. The building is a testament to the rich history of education in Texas and is a beloved landmark in the community.
