REUNION OF THE AGES

MORRISTOWN, TN

Hamblen County Courthouse, 2nd N Street and Jackson Street, Morristown, TN Built in 1874, this Italianate-style building was constructed to serve as the courthouse of Hamblen County, which was created in 1870 from portions of the adjacent counties.  The land the courthouse sits upon was donated by G. W. Barnett, George W. Folsom, D. Morris, and John Murphey.  The courthouse was renovated and expanded in 1955-1956 and 1969, extending the building to the west with several three-story additions.  The building features a painted brick exterior, a hipped, gabled, and mansard roof, two-over-two windows with arched upper transoms, a tower with corner doric pilasters, dormers with clock faces, and a mansard roof, bracketed cornices, a two-story front porch with rectilinear stone columns, stone balustrades, and a cornice with modillions and dentils, and quoins and brick piers at the corners of the building.  The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.  Today, the building remains in use as a courthouse.
