The East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of East Tennessee. Founded in 1834, ETHS is the oldest non-profit organization in Knoxville and one of the oldest in the state. The Society works to uncover, collect, and interpret the history of East Tennessee and the surrounding region, and to make it available to the public through educational programs, exhibitions, and publications.

The Society's headquarters is located in downtown Knoxville, in the historic Ramsey House. This two-story Federal-style house is one of the oldest in the city and was built in 1797. The house is open to the public and contains a variety of artifacts related to East Tennessee history, including furniture, documents, photographs, and more. The ETHS also has an extensive research library, open to anyone with an interest in East Tennessee history. The collection includes books, maps, newspapers, manuscripts, photographs, and other materials related to the region.

The ETHS also oversees a number of historic sites in the area, including the Mabry-Hazen House, which was home to two prominent Knoxville families; the James White Fort, built by the city's founder; and the Marble Springs State Historic Site, once home to Tennessee's first governor, John Sevier. The Society also offers a variety of educational programs and events, such as guided tours, lectures, workshops, and more. Through these initiatives, the ETHS works to bring the history of East Tennessee to life.
