The Travellers Rest Historic House Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, is a preserved 19th century plantation home built in 1799 by Judge John Overton. The house was originally part of a 1,000 acre plantation and was occupied by four generations of the Overton family. The house and grounds are now owned by the city of Nashville and managed by the Metropolitan Historical Commission.

The house itself is a two-story Federal-style farmhouse, with a large wrap-around porch, and features original woodwork, plasterwork, and a grand staircase. It is furnished with period antiques and decorative arts from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The house also features an exhibit gallery with a collection of artifacts from the Overton family’s life on the plantation.

The grounds of the museum include the house, a reconstructed log cabin, an original smokehouse, a restored barn, a blacksmith shop, a garden, and a visitor center. The visitor center features a gift shop, an interactive exhibit to learn more about the Overton family and the history of the house, and a research library.

The Travellers Rest Historic House Museum offers a variety of educational programs and events, including guided tours, special exhibits, lectures and presentations, and school trips. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, and is a popular destination for visitors to Nashville.
