Symmetrical in design, it has a (dual) hipped roof with a central shingled front dormer and a central, open, bracketed bell tower. An orangish scored brick with running bond course work serves as the building's facing material and rough faced ashlar was used for the foundation. Segmental arches top all the windows, and are tied with double brick string courses. A round-arched one-story main portal projects from the wall's surface and protects the recessed double doors. It undoubtedly has a beautiful panoramic view of the Missouri River Valley in front of it while the village of Volin descends the hill to the flood plains.

This former school appears to be in the process of renovation. There were signs warning that it was private property and no trespassing. It was a humid summer morning. Almost all the sharp lines and edges of things were softened. The sky had a white, milk bottle look while things being touched by the first rays of sunrise took on a pleasant golden glow.

This photo was created from six overlapping photos that were stitched together in PTGui Pro. The stitched TIF was then cropped in Capture One 20 with minor tweaks for color and definition.

The camera was a Sony NEX 3N, set to manual mode. ISO 200, 1/10 second exposure, f/16. The lens was a Ricoh Rikenon 50mm 1:2, manually focused. All the shots were done in raw.
