12P/PonsBrooks_20231119 Comet 12P/Pons–Brooks 12P/Pons–Brooks is a Halley-type periodic comet with an orbital period of 71 years. It was discovered in 1812 and later recovered during passages in 1883 and 1954. It is expected to brighten to an apparent magnitude of 4.5 (visible to the naked eye) during its upcoming passage in April 2024. This image shows the comet during a recent outburst, releasing billions of pounds of gas and dust while brightening to an apparent magnitude of 8.8 (about 60x brighter than the predicted magnitude of 13.2). Note how the inner coma surrounding the core is much brighter than the faint outer coma. The Berkeley Museum is a historical museum located in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. The museum is housed in a beautiful two-story brick building, which was originally built in 1911 as a post office. It was later renovated and converted into a museum in 2006.

The museum features exhibits and artifacts related to the history of Berkeley County, South Carolina. The exhibits include displays on the Native American tribes that once inhabited the area, the colonial era, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War. The museum also has exhibits on the agricultural and industrial history of the county, as well as displays on the history of the town of Moncks Corner.

One of the highlights of the museum is the collection of antique cars, which includes a 1917 Model T Ford and a 1931 Ford Model A. The museum also has a research library, which is open to the public and contains a wealth of information on the history of Berkeley County.

The Berkeley Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm, and admission is free. Guided tours are available upon request. The museum is a must-see for anyone interested in the history of the Lowcountry region of South Carolina.

The rings appear significantly dimmer than they were at opposition because of the Seeliger effect. Also, three of its major moons appear in this image. Saturn has a total of 146 known moons as of the date this was posted. Venus_Composite Venus, the 2nd planet from the Sun, has the hottest surface temperature in the Solar System at a scorching 867°F (464°C). This is caused by a runaway greenhouse effect from the buildup of carbon dioxide. Inevitably, Earth will suffer a similar fate within a few billion years as the Sun's luminosity increases. At the rate we're going, humans will be long gone before then. Because its orbit is smaller than ours, Venus goes through phases from our perspective just like the moon does. But unlike the moon, Venus grows significantly larger during the thin crescent phases as it gets closer to us (and largest at "inferior conjunction," the equivalent to new moon). This is the conclusion of my 4-month-long project. Its position is not ideal for imaging near inferior conjunction this time, and the conditions have been garbage here. Jupiter_20221015 New and improved version! WinJUPOS derotation leads to a much sharper result. This is a derotation of 5 images (500 frames each). Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, about 3 weeks after its 2022 opposition. The Great Red Spot, visible in the southwest, is a giant storm with a diameter larger than Earth. Wind speeds in the storm peak at 268 mph (432 km/h). This is one of my top 3 Jupiter images from the 2022 season. Using this 6" SCT with a planetary camera is so much fun, and the results are shocking to me. I could have never imagined getting images this sharp when I started this hobby back in 2018! ISS_20220801 The International Space Station / ISS The ISS is a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in low Earth orbit, with an orbital speed of 17,100 mph (27,600 km/h). It has been continuously occupied by humans since November 2000. It is the largest artificial satellite in orbit with a length of 357.5 ft (109 m). This is my first decent image using the 10" Dobsonian telescope. I bought it in March 2022 but haven't had the time and energy to take it outside much. I plan on using this monster scope for visual astronomy (with eyepieces!), ISS images, and high-altitude contrail photography. C2021A1+M3_1a11_Animation FINAL IMAGE: <a href="https://flic.kr/p/2mQVv5w" rel="noreferrer nofollow">flic.kr/p/2mQVv5w</a> Comet C/2021 A1 (Leonard) Messier 3 / M3 / NGC 5272 Comet Leonard appeared to pass between the Whale Galaxy (NGC4631) and the Crowbar Galaxy (NGC4656) in late November. It then passed within a few arcminutes of Messier 3 on December 3rd, creating this spectacular conjunction. These objects may seem close, but they are extremely far apart: the light from the comet took about 3.5 minutes to reach Earth, while the light from the cluster has been traveling through space for 34,000 years. Comet Leonard was predicted to become the brightest comet of 2021 around mid-December. It just barely achieved naked-eye visibility for northern observers before it was lost in the morning twilight. The comet will reach perihelion on January 3, 2022, marking the end of its 40,000-year journey to the inner Solar System. It will then be ejected into interstellar space, never to return.
